Synopsis: Life is hard. Life leaves you beaten, broken…alone. Then one day, a stranger touches your hand and you feel something intense, unforgettable, but yet, you want to forget. You need to forget. It’s safer than believing in things you’ve decided don’t exist. You know all about shattered promises and lost hope. You know them so much better than you know this excited, warm, wonderful feeling, and it scares you. He scares you, but he also makes you feel alive again. He makes you realize you haven’t really been living. You’re surviving and you fear he’s the one who’ll make you forget how to keep doing it. But what if he’s the one who changes everything? – Goodreads

I recently received an email from author, Lisa Renee Jones, asking me to choose some of her work to do a review about, so I feel that I need to be very honest in my review about my experience with the book. First things first, just so you know, the book is very erotic. I don’t have a problem reading these types of books, but sometimes it does get a bit too much. Secondly, I’m not sure I like the storyline that much, the fact that the girl meets the guy and everything gets steamy right off the bat. It reminded me too much of Fifty Shades of Grey and it felt like the author got a lot of her ideas from there.

So this is the storyline: Danny is working for a real-estate company who owns hotels across the US, she’s working and saving money in order to go to medical school. One night she’s at the hotel bar with her friend, drinking too many tequilas and ends up in Jensen’s room. Jensen, of course, like in all these types of books, is handsome and sexy, has too much money for his own good and is a bit dark. Next morning Danny goes to her office, just to find out Jensen is a new consultant and her boss’s nephew. She’s forced to work with him and it’s awkward, but we all know where this is going to lead anyway.

It’s not that I have something against the plot, it just feels like every erotic novel is the same, there’s a girl, she’s working class, there’s a guy, his rich, there’s a one night stand and the next day the girl finds out either the guy is her new boss, or something to that extent and she is forced to work with him or for him. The guy is also usually very sexual and domineering, liking either bondage or rough sex. The girl is always attracted to the guy (obviously) but wants nothing to do with him at first. And so the little dance goes, the guy flirts with the girl, the girl refuses to give in, the guy gets a bit rough, again the girl refuses, and in the end they always end up together.

For those of you who like a steamy book, I’d recommend the book, if not, then don’t bother, you’re not going to miss out on much.

Ah yes… I heard nice things about the author but I’m not that much into erotica so I’m not sure I’ll try this one.
