Everyone in Arnn – a small farming town with more legends than residents – knows the story of Witchwood Hollow: if you venture into the whispering forest, the witch will trap your soul among the shadowed trees.
After losing her parents in a horrific terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, fifteen-year-old Honoria and her older brother escape New York City to Arnn. In the lure of that perpetual darkness, Honoria finds hope, when she should be afraid.
Perhaps the witch can reunite her with her lost parents. Awakening the witch, however, brings more than salvation from mourning, for Honoria discovers a past of missing children and broken promises.
To save the citizens of Arnn from becoming the witch’s next victims, she must find the truth behind the woman’s madness.
How deep into Witchwood Hollow does Honoria dare venture?

My Thoughts:

After 9/11 Honoria moves with her brother, aunt and uncle to Arnn. At first Honoria feels very out of place in this small town, until she meets Leon, a kindred spirit who loves history. She quickly learns there is more to Arnn than meets the eye. Arnn has a mystery: Witchwood Hollow – where people enter and never come out again. Woven together with this is flashbacks to other timelines and happenings in Arnn. Which I absolutely loved! I enjoyed getting bits of information as the story went on, especially from other points of views and other timelines!

I found this story intriguing, mysterious and fun. I loved Honoria’s character growth and how she deals with her past and her future at the same time. I also love a creepy story that doesn’t scare me too much!  I also enjoyed the uniqueness of this story and how I wasn’t always sure where it was headed. Also let’s not forget my appreciation for characters who are into history.

Great pace, easily distinguishable between timelines but also woven together masterfully! What a great book that takes Young Adult Fantasy to a new level. Read it when you are bored of the normal and need something a little different! Definitely are few twists and turns to look forward to!

This got a 8/10 from me.

  • Ooh, I almost read this but wasn’t really sure about it. The historical aspect seems great, but I was worried the whole split story thing wouldn’t give any of the characters enough time to develop enough. The creepy part sounds fun though!

    • Sugar & Snark

I think the split story gives it more depth because the present and past are so connected!
